Tips on Choosing Great Party Games for Kids Parties
Are you looking for reliable tips on choosing great party games for kid’s parties? So are a lot of parents, but finding tips that actually work is difficult. Here are a few parent-tested tips to help you get started.
Consider the Age of Your Guests
Nothing flattens a kid’s party faster than games that are too old or too young for the party-goers. Keep your party games age appropriate. This is easily accomplished by letting your child select a few games they like. Be sure to include a few games appropriate for both girls and boys or create different versions for boys and girls separately, and then pit the two teams against each other for a special prize.
Always Include Prizes
Playing games for the sake of entertainment is great, but playing for special prizes is much more fun for children! Game prizes can include edible treats, paper crowns for princes and princesses, noisemakers, coloring books and crayons, stickers, costume jewelry, candy, or even pocket change. Include your child in the planning process here as well and ask him or her what types of prizes they would like to receive.
Keep It Short
Keep the scheduled time for each party game short. Little minds have shorter attention spans. A game of musical chairs with 25 children is likely to become boring before a winner is announced. You can split larger groups of children up into small groups to play simultaneous version of the same game to reduce the playtime. Enlist a few willing parents to help you during the games if possible.
Provide Some Free Time
While having an action packed schedule looks good on paper, you do not want to wear out your guest of honor. It is a good idea to provide a few minutes of free time during the party schedule to allow your child to play with his guests. This equates into mingling at a child’s party. It is a good idea to allow some free playtime right after the cake and ice cream to help little ones run off excess energy.
Do Not Forget Manners
Make sure to cover party etiquette and manners with your guest of honor before the party begins. Make sure your child thanks each guest for coming and says thank you for each gift, even if the gift was an unwanted item. Review how your children should behave if they lose a game or do not get a prize they had hoped to receive.
Choosing great party games for kids parties is easy as long as you remember the goal is to have fun!
